FARM TO FLAME

Transforming Paper Mill Waste into Sustainable Energy Solutions

QUICK FACTS

Partner: Georgia-Pacific

Revenue: $25 billion

Facilities: +150 paper mills worldwide

Challenge: 100 tons/day of paper pulp sludge costing $600,000 annually

Solution: Combustion tests validated waste-to-energy transition

Result: Reduced waste disposal costs, enhanced sustainability, and corporate support for scaling.

Farm To Flame Energy partnered with Georgia Pacific, the largest wood waste electricity producer in the U.S, and the third largest papermaker in the U.S. They do $25 billion in top line revenue and have +150 papermills worldwide. We were approached by the V.P. of Research and Development at the Neenah R&D plant to provide innovation delivery into their industry. We identified a plant in Halsey Oregon, where they have 100 Tons Per Day of paper pulp sludge that currently costs $600,000 per year to dispose of. We were able to do combustion tests of this waste mix alongside forestry waste to confirm sufficient combustion temperature and dynamics for replacement of their natural gas paper dryers, with Farm to Flame dryers. Furthermore, we have exceeded abating 5,680 lbs of CO2 from diesel and natural gas. We have cemented interest of the corporate team in this scaleup, and continue to look at emission reduction technologies to further push state funding for the project.
